I was about 8 or 9 years old when they aired THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL on the "The Saturday Night Movie"; a weekly show on NBC TV. Just as fate would allow, we had company that night, and I got to watch it along with my older brother, and his friend Richy. Just the intro music alone made me hide my eyes and want to hide under the sofa...
Of course they thought that was a laugh load, and were relentless with the teasing...
My brother and I still laugh to this day about that, because the fear and the wonder would stay with me for many years later. Great memories!
